About Hunslet Parkside Amateur Rugby League club

Formed in 1973 with just two teams, We currently run ten junior and youth amateur rugby league teams from under eights to under eighteens. We are a pure voluntary club, which we are proud of, and rely on our own fund raising and sponsors to keep the club going.

The Hunslet amateur rugby league club is one of the best known amateur rugby clubs in the County, playing in all the Northern and Southern rugby league playing areas. These areas include Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and London. Our teams play in the Leeds and District, Yorkshire youth and junior and BARLA leagues.

Based in our Facilities ‘The Belle Isle Youth and Social Pavilion’ South Leeds Community based dressing rooms on the Belle Isle school fields. Over the years our club has produced some of rugby's best known players, Garry Schofield, Karl Pratt and Jason Robinson all playing for club and country at professional level. Others who made their mark James Lowes, Sonny Nichol, Mick Coyle, George Raynor and Gareth Naylor and the most recent Sam Burgess, Bradford and Great Britain Prop. Also the up and coming Leeds Rhinos star Paul McShane with many other players who first started with the local Hunslet senior club. Countless other players over the years have continued to play in the local amateur open age a proud record for the Parkside Club.

Our aim is to foster and develop these young players both girls and boys to take part in its disciplines both in training and playing a disciplined sport. Giving them a sense of meaning, we have kept them away from the streets and crime. We have a successful partnership with South Leeds High School Belle Isle Campus, also the Police and Police probation services on many occasions who needed help, providing Community work etc.

In 2007 we achieved Club Mark status. Each club that achieves accreditation are recognised  and promoted as a club mark club. This gives cross-sport recognition and nationally acknowledged status as a quality club. Clubs that achieve club mark status are highlighted and prominent on a national data base and other forms of club directories and are able to promote this added value locally. In 2010 we moved on even further and achieved Club Mark Gold.

Funding is vital to our club with its heavy lay out to survive with our own fund raising none stop all year round to provide Kits, First aid, Coach Education Courses, Training Equipment, Rugby Balls etc, All teams are Compulsory Injury Insured, Club Insurance and League Fees, Transport costs (Maintenance on two Mini Buses their Running costs and Insurance) Field marking materials and Line Machine maintenance.

At the end of 2008 we rejoined forces with Hunslet Hawks RFLC to feed local youths into the professional game.
